Miners Say Carbon Plan May Cost A$5 Billion, Australian Reports

An emissions trading system will cost the coal export sector A$5 billion ($3.6 billion) in the first five years, the Australian newspaper said.
Australia is at a disadvantage in coal as Britain looks to expand production, the newspaper said, citing Minerals Council of Australia Deputy Chief Executive Officer Brendan Pearson.
The government wants a system that reduces carbon pollution while supporting economic growth, the Australian cited an unnamed spokeswoman for Climate Change Minister Penny Wong as saying.
