Denmark: We must battle climate change
United Press International, Jan. 5, 2009
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- In a recent address in Sweden, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen called for climate change action.
Rasmussen asked all other European Union countries to commit to using less oil and gas and to increase development of renewable energy projects, Xinhua reported.
He expressed his support of an agreement reached by European Union leaders last month on a climate change package that will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
The EU's plan was approved following the Poznan climate talks in Poland.
"The overall political message that we have sent to the rest of the world is that Europe is taking the lead," Rasmussen said.
