ANTARA News, Dec 17, 2008

Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) is expected to pass the Bill on Minerals and Coal Mining into law at a plenary session on Tuesday, a legislator said.

The bill had been discussed by a DPR special committee and the government since July 4, 2005, said Yasin Kara, a member of the special committee on the minerals and coal mining bill, here on Tuesday.

"The plenary session will approve the results of the work of the special committee and the government. If there are objections, it will be included as notes," he said.

Yasin Kara of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said his party would convey a note regarding a transitional procedure.

Coal mining companies operating under work contract (KKs) or work agreements (PKP2B) will be required to adjust their on-going contracts or agreements to the new law one year after its enactment..

Last Thursday (Dec. 11), members of the DPR special committee on the mineral and coal mining bill and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro endorsed the bill in a joint working meeting.

The new law would replace Law No. 11/1967 on Mining.(*)
