Indonesia gets financial pledge from foreign countries on emission cut

JAKARTA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has received commitments from several countries to help finance the efforts to reduce emission in the country, a minister said here Tuesday.
Indonesian Forestry Minister Zulkipli Hassan said that among the countries pledging their commitment are the United States with109 million U.S. dollars, Australia 73 million U.S. dollars and Norway 34 million euros.
"We have cooperation with a number of foreign countries," he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economy here.
Indonesia has pledged to reduce its carbon emission by 26 percent by 2010.
"The funds would be used to support the program of emission reduction," said Hassan.
Coordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa said that Indonesia has designed its plan of action on the emission reduction.
The plan is expected to be delivered to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the end of January next year.
The reduction would be 15 percent at the sector of forestry and about 6 percent at energy sector, said Hatta.
