China Interested in Building Sumatra Hydro Power Plant

Medan, N Sumatra - A Chinese investor is interested in building the third unit of Asahan hydro power plant (PLTA) in North Sumatra province, an envoy said.
The Chinese investor is currently building the first unit of the hydro power plant scheduled for completion this year, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Zhang Qiyue said at a meeting with North Sumatra Governor Syamsul Arifin here on Friday.
"The Asahan I project is expected to be completed this year. We also expect we can build the Asahan III project because we have funds and technology," she said.
Governor Syamsul Arifin meanwhile said the local government is still holding discussions with the central government about the plan to build the third unit of the Asahan hydro power plant. (*)
