HANOI: Vietnam hopes that the World Bank would boost their assistance to the country, as it struggles with rising sea-levels and changes in river water sources, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
Speaking at a meeting with the World Bank's Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific James Adam, Hai said that the climate change is Vietnam's top priority in the country's sustainable development.
Hai also thanked the bank for its effective co-operation and support especially in fields of hunger eradication and poverty reduction as well as stimulus package to deal with effects of global economic crisis.
Meanwhile, Vietnam news agency cited Adam as saying, that the World Bank would prioritise assisting Vietnam in its investment programmes and global climate change mitigation projects.
He affirmed that the World Bank would continue ensuring the delivery of already committed assistance in issues related to sustainable development.
He added that the bank would consider providing the country with new assistance and help it access assistance from other organisations and donors.
Adam said that Vietnamese Government's policies in coping with the global financial and economic crisis had proved effective and also highly appreciated the country's sustainable development policy in the coming time.
He stressed that all this has built great confidence for the bank and served as the base for the country and the bank to boost their co-operation and multi-faceted support in the future. – BERNAMA
