New Carbonetworks Web Portal Illustrates Environmental Performance

By ClimateBiz Staff, ClimateBiz.Com, January 7, 2009

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Canadian software developerCarbonetworks unveiled on Tuesday a new tool that allows companies to create custom web portals illustrating their carbon management and environmental performance.

The Corporate Carbon Portal can be used to tout greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies and progress, environmental projects and executive discussion of environmental stewardship goals internally to employees or externally to other stakeholders. The portal is based on content from Carbonetworks' Emissions Management Platform and is included in a Carbonetworks subscription.

To date, the company has signed up 365 subscribers in 41 countries, with an average growth rate of two to three corporate subscribers per day.

Carbonetworks, which said in July it had raised $5 million in Series A financing, developed the Emissions Management Platform to help companies manage their balance sheet while treating emissions as a liability or asset.

There are two main products: the CNX Footprint and CNX Professional for enterprises. The basic footprint and reporting package starts at $500 per seat, according to Michael Meehan, Carbonetworks' president and CEO [Disclosure: Meehan recently appeared as a guest blogger on ClimateBiz.com]. The CNX Professional version charges by tonne of carbon managed by the platform, with unlimited seats.

"Unlike traditional offerings, we use variable pricing on how much carbon you manage on the platform -- so you only pay for what you use," Meehan told ClimateBiz.com via email. "This enables companies to be rewarded for reductions."
