Nigeria: Meteorological Agency Predicts More Flight Cancellations From Today

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has warned that from today, visibility within most part of Nigeria will be less than 1000 meters before noon, and forecasted more flight cancellation and poor land transportation among others.
NIMET also advised asthmatic patience to take extra-precaution this Christmas season, saying the quantity of dust carried by the harmattan this year does not favour their condition.
A statement from the management of NIMET which gave this warnings yesterday said, "the current transport of significant dust haze into the country has reduced horizontal visibilities in most parts of the country to less than 1000m during the early morning hours", the statements reads in part.
"The dust haze currently affecting the northern states will be gradually transported southwards and consequently reduce horizontal visibility in these states. This may affect flight operations and other economic activities during the current festival season.
"In addition to the effects of dust haze in the south, the early mornings and late evenings will experience mist/fog situations which will further affect visibility and consequently road transportation. Drivers are advised to be cautious and adhere strictly to road traffic regulations".
"Asthmatic patients and people with respiratory diseases should take precautionary measures to avoid deterioration of their health conditions" the statement warns in conclusion.
