VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam is willing to cooperate with other countries to push ahead negotiations within the framework of the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Bali itinerary in the time to come.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan made the statement at the Oct. 18 session of the 12th Francophone Summit in Quebec, Canada.

The Vietnamese government appreciates the international and the French speaking countries’ efforts in environmental protection, the Vice President said.

She called on developed countries to play a more active role in protecting the environment, dealing with climate change, supporting developing countries and making specific commitments for an effective implementation of international conventions on earth protection in coming time.

Doan said Vietnam has implemented concrete measures to protect the environment, including developing a national environmental protection strategy till 2010 and vision to 2020.

The country has participated in many international environmental protection conferences and signed the Kyoto protocol and the UNFCCC, she added.

Regarding the International Francophone Organisation’s General Secretary Diouf statement, Vice President Doan said the OIF, as an important part of the international community, should stand side by side with the UN and work closely with other international organisations in preventing and dealing with conflicts, reducing hunger, boosting economic development and protecting the diverse ethnic cultures.

In her opinion, the Francophone community’s cooperation models, such as the tripartite and four-sided cooperation in agriculture, health and education, have proved to be effective and suitable to member countries’ situations and means.

She also expressed her hope that developed countries and international financial institutions would provide financial and political support for developing Francophone countries to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals towards a balance development in the community.
